What do you know about 4G  cellular wireless networks? Have you tried to use the WiMax network? Do you see any point in it? Probably this review is orientated on people who have some background knowledge about development of mobile network, or for people who needs fast Internet. Today we are speaking about two sites belonging to one company and actually presenting one service. So they are clearwire.com and clear.com.

Sites provides:

  • Clearwire.com poses the company as a pioneer of 4G. So they started building their network in 2003 and they offer service in more 70 cities across the USA to more than 119 million people. Here we must start speaking about the speed of such Internet. Because many people have read on Wikipedia that 4G offers the downloading speed up to 1 Gbit/s . In the clear.com they write about real average speed of their network it is about 3-6 Mbps. And this moment is very important because such speed you can get on 3G mobile network. Still the perspectives of the Clear mobile networks are really amazing because,  tests in some cities  show already the download speed about 90 Mbps. And as you can understand this is not the limit.
  • Clearwire.com is made for people who want to follow the developing  of the network and of the company in general, for example here you can find  the site all press releases. You can see stock Information and of course you will know who are the main partners.

For general user much more interesting might be the site clear.com. Because here you will find the information how to buy and how to use this service.

  • Service plans.
So if we come to this section, we will notify the separation into mobile Internet plans and home Internet plans.
The basic mobile tariff is called – 4G Mobile
You get unlimited usage, no preset speed  cap for download, and up to 1.0 Mbps for your upload.
Advanced mobile tariff is called -4G/3G Mobile
You get unlimited usage, no preset speed cap for download, and up to 1.0 Mbps for your upload + extended 3G Coverage (if you using your phone outside the city ).
For the price 45 dollars you can buy an internet plan for your home, no will have no downloading limitations and have the upload speed up to 1.0 Mbps.
  • Devices
If you are going to have the internet at home you need the 4g modem.  Clear.com offers 2 models one you get free if you sign the contract for 2 years. And the second device is a little bit more advanced it can use both 3G and 4G networks and gets better signal. For the second model you will pay 6 dollars per month.
There are other devices like modems for home or office networks.  You can buy a hotspot modem here it’s called “Clear spot”. So with such a device you can connect  up to eight devices to one modem.
  • Coverage map.
Clear.com does not hide this section from visitors. But still the network might be more developed for users who live near big cities or just for people who are travelling a lot.
  • Design
Design is clear and makes very good impression. You will not find a lot animations or pop-ups.  But good graphics and smooth background make it look very professional.
  • Pros for a wireless Internet.
Portable, easy to setup, good coverage if you are in the right area, you don’t need to bring messy cables at home, you can connect many devices to one hot-spot, you can use it for  your mobile devices, like Ipad or mobile phones.

Site drawbacks.

  • The information from these 2 sites could be united in one.
  • Cons against a wireless Internet
Unstable connection, serves a limited number of cities, expensive after trial, you need to buy a modem which costs about 100 dollars, there is one rule the higher you place the modem, the better is signal,  for placing it higher you need a long usb-usb cable (is quite expensive and you get the same cable mess), the weather conditions influence the signal very much.

Site summary and verdict:

Have you dreamed about fast Internet traveling across the country? Or you want to have unlimited but still wireless Internet at home? Clear mobile make you dreams come true but unfortunately only partially. Fast mobile Internet today is not really possible the networks can’t afford such a number of clients. So if you are planning to substitute your wired DSL modem with a new 4G maybe you should wait for a year or two. The speed 4-5 Mbps is still too low for HDTV and for fast downloading of big files. Clear mobile develops their industry and in coming future their promise us slightly different service. But for nowadays  45 dollars for such a speed is a little bit too much.

Our verdict- nice solution for travellers, too slow and too expensive for home usage.
