Have you ever played cricket? We haven’t played… But we definitely know what to say about the cricket mobile provider. First just some words in general to start our review. This company is based in San-Diego and started as a prepaid provider. No it has some other features which we are going to mention in our review.
Site provides:
- Mobile phones:
if you are visiting the site www.mycricket.com for first time you may think, that they just sell mobile phones. This is partially true, because main page is designed to impress you with new models of mobile phones. In the header you have mobile phone form LG, Samsung, Huawei… but with brand cricket on it. In the section “shop” you can have a look of all phone models provided at this moment. There about 16 models and most of them belong to the low price segment. You will not find Iphone or even new models from Nokia. Still here are some less known phones like Kyocera, Sanyo or Cricket. By clicking on the picture you get nice and smooth 360° animation. This is very informative but still site needs more technical information about each devices, especially it is important by phones like Kyocera or Cricket. It may be really problematic to find additional information in the Internet about such models. - Cell Phone Plans
We like suggested by mycrikcet.com plan page. It is very simple and still you get all necessary information. On the main page you have animated calculator so you enter the approximate information about your bill and get the right advice, what is the best cricket tariff plan for you.
They all have unlimited features the cheapest one costs 35 dollars and you can talk as much as you wish. By other plans you get free ringtone downloads or free MMS etc. Other positive aspect is, that each tariff plan has no signed contract, talk and text in all 50 states and even free overnight shipping. - Coverage map.
This section can be easy found on the top of the page. Probably it’s made to change opinion of new customers, that Cricket has bad signal. The map has almost no white spots but still 3G and fast Internet can be found only near big cities. We have read the reviews of general users of Cricket cell network, so they are quite satisfied with the coverage and consider that this is a strong point of the company. - Community:
Here we want to right about one interesting section. This section is called the 411 and here you can find some funny but maybe for someone very useful advices. It was funny to read , that you should ‘not even attempt to gently toss your cell phone across a room to a friend who has two hands out, because eventually you will miss. Do not attempt to paint your cell phone case rather than buying a new cover because the paint can damage the phone irreparably. So if you liked this you should obligatory visit the page there are many of them, still some advices can be seen as important an serious (for example “Dropped Your Phone in Water? Fix It!”).
Site drawbacks:
- Languages:
Only two variants of the site English and Spanish. - Phone models:
We have expected much more models from them and the models could be newer and from well known brands like Nokia or Samsung. - Design.
Main page should inform you, that you are not in the phone shop but still here are offered prepaid services. It would be logical. - Poor customer service
We have searched for people opinions and the feedbacks of their experience with cricket. The main problem seems to be unpleasant and sometimes not professional customer service. Criket’s phone repair service isn’t appreciated by people.
- Problem with SMS
We tried to send a SMS having a low signal. The result was quite funny we made 7 attempts and 5 times we got the respond, that our message could not be sent. But in fact 4 messages were delivered.
Summary and verdict.
If we compare prices with Virgin mobile prepaid card. Cricket definitely seems to be a winner. Here you pay a little bit more but still you get unlimited talking possibility and unlimited SMS. The site of Virgin mobile has impressed us much more but still the Cricket has left very good impression with its simple and understandable design and navigation. If we compare phone models again here the winner is the Cricket mobile, because they offer smartphones, androids and simple phone models for people who don’t need these new extra features. Virgin mobile has only the simplest phones for talking. Prices of tariff plans could be a little bit lower.
Our verdict. Advisable if you are talking a really lot, but still better without buying the phone in their mobile shop.
